More than 750 returnees are still waiting for settlement in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

Most of the returnees are based in Mahat Mayo Vocational Training Centre, SCR News correspondent reported.

They have relatives in Wau or in the surrounding villages and could find some support, but their families do not have room to welcome for them.

Western Bahr el Ghazal Governor Zakaria Hassan last Friday told UN agencies and NGOs working in the State that two sites have been identified to settle the returnees in the outskirts of Wau.

He added that the sites need to be prepared before the land can be allocated.

Agreements are already under discussion to provide roads to the areas, water facilities and to demarcate the plots.

An assessment was carried out by state authorities and different humanitarian agencies to identify the returnees’ needs.

Sr. Grace Adichirayil, who took part in the assessment for the health field, reported no specific health emergencies at Mahat Mayo site.

She daid the returnees in need of health care were addressed to the local health facilities.

Sr. Grace explained that in order to assist the returnees, Sikka Hadid clinic received extra doses of feeding rations from WFP and financial support for the provision of medicines.

WFP provided each returnee with food rations for three months.

Local NOGs distributed non food items such as soap, blankets and mosquito nets.
