Officials said security is the major priority in the process of nation building.
GoSS minister of Labor, Awut Deng Acuil told the participants at the Voice of America Town Hall Meeting yesterday in Juba that her government’s priority is security to facilitate development.She added that the referendum was successful due to a good security environment.
Madame Awut said the government integrated many militia forces into the SPLA at big expenses to foster security in the region.
The minister said GoSS’ second priority is using oil money to promote and invest in agriculture to minimize food insecurity in South Sudan.
William Hammick, USAID mission director for Sudan, said security is an absolute necessity for any government that is starting up.
He called for the empowerment of local leaders to build security.
Retired international civil servant Professor Peter Tingwa said insecurity is chronic in some parts of South Sudan because there is no justice for offenders of peace.
