The head of the African Union Panel on Sudan will seek a meeting with the president of the republic on SPLM’s withdrawal from the post referendum talks with the NCP.

The SPLM pulled out of the talks on Saturday accusing the NCP of arming militias in the South and planning to topple the South Sudan government before independence on July 9.

Thabo Mbeki told the press yesterday after he met with GoSS president Salva Kiir Mayardit that post referendum matters must be addressed before the independence of South Sudan.

He added that he wanted to meet urgently with president Omar al-Bashir to lay solutions which will help addressing the matters that need to be addressed urgently.

Mr. Mbeki appealed to the NCP and SPLM to resume negotiations on post-referendum arrangements.

He said he remained optimistic that the two parties would get back to the negotiations table and reach a consensus before the official declaration of the independence of Republic of South Sudan.
