ARTISTS INVITED TO DESIGN SOUTH SUDAN SYMBOLS

Artists were invited to submit proposals for South Sudan’s coat of arms and for the different medals of honour of the new state until the end of the month.

GoSS culture and heritage minister told the press yesterday that adds announcing the competition were already published on Friday to attract the best artists.

Gabriel Changson Chang explained that the coat of arms is a very important national symbol because it will be in a number of documents, including passport covers, IDs and letter heads.

He added that the coat of arms has to be ready before independence.

Dr. Changson explained that a panel of nine judges representing the government, parties, security forces, civil society and faith based organizations will choose the coat of arms that represents the Republic of South Sudan and the design for the various medals of honour.

He added that the government intends to distinguish a number of foreign dignitaries with medals of honour.
