TONJ SOUTH COUNTY SLAYERS TO COMPENSATE BEREAVED FAMILIES

More than 40 youths accused of killing people during clashes between Thiet and Wanh-alel communities in Tonj South county, Warrap state, are to compensate the families of the victims.

The clashes took place in January and four people were killed, Don Bosco FM reported.

The authorities decided that the youths charged with the killings were to compensate each family of the deceased with 31cows plus a top-up of 3,000 Sudanese Pounds fine.

Tonj South county police chief inspector Joseph Mayei said that executive chiefs and police forces went to the villages to get cows and money from the youths’ families.

He added that the murderers will not be released till parents bring compensation to the court.

Mr. Mayei said he mediated the compensation process and the locals are obliged not to retaliate.

He said the cases of those who killed during the big fight at Toch swampy was closed while those accuse of individual crimes are still in prison waiting judgment.

In the last two years Tonj witnessed on and off fights leading to the conviction of 37 people.
