The two-day candidates’ interview for the Certified Community Nursing Course at Rumbek Nursing School conducted last week recorded a low turnout.

Magdalen Awor, who heads the Institute, told Good News Radio that only 17 male and two female candidates turned up for the interview out of the expected 35.

She said the general performance of the candidates was poor, adding that only seven candidates scored above 50 percent.

Ms Awor added that candidates who applied from Upper Nile, Jonglei and Unity States will have their interviews on in Malakal on Thursday and Friday.

The directress attributed the poor performance of the interviewed candidates to lack of proper career guidance for students in secondary school, no revision work after completing secondary school, lack of team work and the unwillingness to practice English.

Ms. Awor insisted that only candidates who passed in sciences, mathematics and English will be admitted in the school.

She advised the community to note that the certificate received at the end of the course has great value in the nursing profession.

Rumbek Nursing School is sponsored by an Italian NGO, in collaboration with Lakes State Ministry of Health and the health department of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek.
