Eastern Equatoria State is supporting a federal system of governance for the new Republic of South Sudan.
Agriculture Minister Jerome Surur Gama said federalism would be the best kind of governance for the people of new state to be born on July 9, Emmanuel Radio reported.
He said the people of Eastern Equatoria prefer a federal system of governance because it decentralizes administration and takes towns to the people, following the lead of late Dr. John Garang, the legendary SPLM founder.
Mr. Surur said the Eastern Equatoria team that went to the Yambio conference would influence other states to advocate for equitable representation of all the regions in the constitutional review committee.
He added that equal representation of all the states gives the chance for the views of the people to be consigned in the Constitution.
A 13-member delegation of state officials travelled on Wednesday to Yambio, in Western Equatoria, for two-day conference on governance, economy, security and social services.
