The government of South Sudan is studying the possibility of turning Juba’s hips of waste into energy to produce 50 megawatts of electricity.
GoSS spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told journalists that today’s cabinet meeting studied a proposal by the finance minister to convert Juba’s waist into electricity.Dr. Marial said the council of minister agreed to issue a tender for private investors to apply to establish technology to process waste in order to generate 50 megawatts of electricity for the residents of Juba.
The Minister said Juba’s powerhouse is currently producing 10 megawatts of electricity which is not enough for the needs of Juba that is growing rapidly.
The cabinet allotted seven million Sudanese pounds for a pension fund.
Dr. Marial added that Juba will host the celebration of independence in South Sudan.
He added that preliminary studies for the new capital of South Sudan were not concluded yet.
