Aid agents attended yesterday a workshop on communication with disaster affected communities.

Miranda Eeles, the workshop’s main facilitator, told Good News Radio that the participants were encouraged to integrate a two-way communication pattern in their programmes and identify the sources of information.

Participants said they found the workshop helpful.

John Malith Rual said the workshop challenged him to analyze the information he gets from the media.

Aguet Garang John added that the training helped her realize the way to effectively use the available means of communication like radios, public sound systems and mobile phones.

Fred Buli, who came from Mundri, explained that the workshop helped him realize the need to have a better understanding of issues affecting people in order to offer an effective service.

The 12 participants learned about the importance of communication to organize programmes and to reach out to the affected communities with information, the composition of messages, and the assessment of the need for information.
