The Governor of Lakes State warned officials involved in polio vaccinations against cheating by destroying vaccines and submitting false reports.
Chol Tong Mayay made this caution yesterday while addressing the public at Rumbek’s Freedom Square during the official launch of the polio vaccination exercise, Good News Radio reported.The Governor said in previous polio vaccination campaigns some health officers destroyed the vaccines and submitting false reports of a successful campaign.
Eng. Tong called the practice a big crime, because those involved were killing children.
The governor thanked the organizations involved in the polio vaccination campaign including UNICEF and the World Health Organization.
Eng. Tong appealed to government officials to be actively involved in telling parents about the importance of the polio vaccine, adding that it prevents children from polio disease which has no cure.
Lakes State Health Minister Samuel Mayek linked the polio vaccination campaign with the post referendum reality.
He said the people of South Sudan won freedom but they have to continue battling against other forces that impede human development including disease, poverty, and illiteracy.
The nationwide polio vaccination campaign that kicked off yesterday will conclude on Friday.
