The US representative in Juba said the Land Policy draft presented to GoSS ministry of Legal Affairs by the Land Commission yesterday includes the opinion of the citizens from South Sudan.

Ambassador Barrie Walkley said the draft calls for number of actions to ensure equality of land Rights for all, Bakhita Radio reported.

The US consul general said issues of Land Policy undermine long term economic growth when left untouched.

He added that experience from other African countries showed that an ill-defined Land Policy can quickly lead to land grabbing and exploitation of land in ways that do not benefit the community.

Mr. Walkley said he hoped that GoSS would review the Land Policy draft and give due consideration to the views expressed by the citizens.

He stressed that the American people will follow the process closely and hopes that the current Land Law will be amended once the new Land Policy is promulgated.

The ambassador made these remarks yesterday during the handing in of the Land Policy Draft by the Southern Sudan land Commission to the GoSS Ministry of Legal Affairs for review and amendment.
