South Sudan will continue to export its oil through Port Sudan after the region becomes independent in July.
SPLM Secretary General Pagan Amum told the press today in Juba that South Sudan is landlocked and therefore it needs to develop different routes to the sea, Bakhita Radio reported.Mr. Amum said South Sudan will export its crude through the existing pipeline connecting the oilfields with Port Sudan.
He added that South Sudan could build its own pipeline if new substantial oil reserves were found.
Mr. Amum said South Sudan will develop accesses to Djibouti, Mombasa and Lamu in the Indian Coast and through DR Congo to the Atlantic coast.
Yesterday, in another press conference, Mr. Amum said that after the independence South Sudan will stop sharing oil profits with North Sudan.
He added that South Sudan will pay a fee to use the pipeline and is ready to give a grant to Khartoum in order to cover for the loss of oil revenue in return for territorial integrity and security for oil export operations.
