Members of the Fangak community in Malakal condemned the recent clashes by loyal forces to George Athor in Fangak County of Jonglei state.
Last week, at least 105 people, including women and children, were killed in a two-day battle between SPLA forces and Mr. Athor’s rebels to control Fangak town.Fangak youths, women, chiefs and intellectuals said that the clashes were inhumane and killed innocent citizens, mostly women and children, Voice of Love reported.
They said every person had the right to life and called upon the government of South Sudan to intervene and bring Mr. Athor’s forces out of their area.
Meanwhile, local sources told SCR News over the phone that residents of Old Fangak, some seven hours away by boat from Fangak, are leaving the town, fearing the place will be Mr. Athor’s next target.
Some 500 patients under treatment for kal-hazar infection at Old Fangak Hospital were moved across the river for safety.
The hospital is admitting 20 new cases of kal-hazar infection every day.
The hospital authorities fear that the insecurity in the area may affect the running of the hospital and its supply of food.
