Juba students were mobilized today to give a good scrub to the capital’s main streets.
Students from Superi, Juba Girls and Juba Day secondary schools were in the main streets picking up plastic bottles and other rubbish dumped by residents.Juba County Commissioner Thomas Peter Gore Ladu said in a statement that the cleaning campaign was done in partnership with Humane Development Council.
Mr. Gore added that students were deployed in Malakia, Juba Teaching Hospital, and Juba Town market areas.
The Commissioner urged all the payams in Juba County and private businesses to keep their places clean.
Mr. Gore lamented the lack of equipments and labour for rubbish collection in the county.
The head of Humane Development Council Deng Ayot said his organization is mobilizing people and resources so that the project to keep Juba clean continues.
He added that the council is committed to keep South Sudan clean.
Mr. Ayot urged the UN and the government to provide resources to keep the environment clean.
