Members of Eastern Equatoria Assembly urged the government to beefs up security in the rural areas to address issues of ethnic clashes and road attacks.
The recommendation that tops a list of issues calling for urgent response was raised in the parliament by Budi County MPs after the area experienced a surge in violence, Emmanuel Radio reported.A committee of legislators led by Emilio Paul Loki urged police to deploy along the hotspot areas to curb insecurity and banditry.
The MPs also called for urgent road construction and maintenance to improve the movement of security personnel.
Speaker Ambrose Emmanuel Ocholimoi said earlier attacks that targeted two priests and killed two police were believed to be politically motivated but the continuity of the circumstances have since changed the perception.
He prompted the lawmakers to ask the state government to step up security in the roads of the state.
