The Catholic Diocese of Rumbek is mourning for the death of one educator involved in teachers’ training activities.
Philip Gachube died suddenly at the Coptic Hospital in Nairobi on Monday from heart attack.Robinson Odong Wani, the education fcoordinator for Rumbek Diocese, told Good News Radio that he was in touch with Mr. Gachube via email to organize a teachers’ workshop in Warrap State next week.
He added that Mr. Gachube developed health complications on Monday evening and he was taken to Nairobi Coptic Hospital, where he died.
Mr. Gachube suffered from high blood pressure.
Fr. John Waweru presided over a requiem mass at Holy Family Cathedral in Rumbek for the eternal rest of Mr. Gachube.
He described the late educator as a simple and dedicated person who came to Sudan out of the love for the people after he retired from teaching in his native Kenya.
He urged the community to pray for his family, relatives and friends, encouraging all those directly affected to accept Mr. Gachube’s death in faith.
In his last interview with Good News Radio in October 2010, late Mr. Gachube talked about the civic education program that the diocesan education team was carrying out.
He described the civic education activities in Tonj and Agangrial as successful, praising the local community for their active participation and knowledge of their responsibilities ahead of the referendum.
