Hundreds of Christians turned up on Saturday to offer prayers for late Fr. Saturnino Ohure to honour his contribution to South Sudan liberation struggle.

The Vicar General of the Catholic Dioceses of Torit, Fr. Celestino Muras, who presided over the mass at Fr. Saturnino’s Mausoleum, said the late priest was a prudent figure who stood for the truth.

Fr. Saturnino was born in 1921 at Loronyo in Torit County and baptized in 1931 before joining Okaru seminary school for priesthood formation.

He was ordained in 1946 and served his first assignment at Lirya Catholic mission.

Later he joined politics and was killed in Uganda.

The minister of Public service, Emilo William Odingila, said Fr. Saturnino was killed at Kitgum in Uganda by a joint operation of Uganda and Sudanese forces.

Mr. Odingila, heads the Sudan African National Union at the state level, the party founded by Fr. Saturnino.
