Hundreds of citizens rejoiced in Torit yesterday over the official declaration of the county’s referendum preliminary results.
Ninety nine percent voted for secession while less than one percent chose unity, Emmanuel Radio reported.Ephraim Longirim, a Torit County referendum member, read out the results to the cheering crowd.
Mr. Longirim congratulated voters for the big effort made for the success of the voting.
The Catholic Radio Network (CRN) is a media project constituted by community-based radio stations broadcasting in Frequency Modulation from Juba, Yei, Torit, Yambio, Rumbek, Tonj, Wau, and Malakal. Due to the heterogeneous realities of South Sudan, each station is rooted in its locality and broadcasts locally produced culture-sensitive programs in the languages which are understood by the local people. For its outreach, CRN has a potential audience of about seven million people, considering the influx of returnees to South Sudan after the Sudan Population Census 2008.
