A GoSS presidential advisor blamed the former colonial powers for creating imbalances and differences in the Sudan.
Joseph Lagu, who led the first civil war in South Sudan known as Anyanya One, blamed British and Egyptians, saying Southern Sudanese were neglected during the colonial period and grouped as minority because they were black.Mr. Lagu said that the British preferred the northerners because they were lighter in colour, and it led the northerners to look at themselves as better than the Southerners.
Mr. Lagu warned Southerners not to copy the Northern regime system and advised them to give full rights to all citizens.
He added that after independence every Southerner should be given the right to rise at any levels of the government regardless of its origins.
Mr. Lagu called on Southerners to burry in their differences and look at themselves as one people so as to make a strong nation.
He made these statements in the weekly GoSS Ministry of Information Media Forum.
