The European Union chief observer said the South Sudan referendum is a major achievement conducted well and smoothly.
Veronique De Keyser said she was glad and relieved because the referendum went well and on time.Ms. De Keyser noted that except for the Abyei clashes, the rest of the country was in peace.
She added that there were doubts about the organization and security and the referendum has been a major achievement.
Ms. De Keyser recommended that the counting and aggregation phase should be done in the same manner of the voting.
Ms. De Keyser said the over 100 EU observers covered 21 percent of both the north and south Sudan polling stations.
She promised an overall report from the EU observation mission on Monday in Khartoum.
