A team of two European Union observers is monitoring the referendum vote in the three Tonj counties.

Irish national Mary Maguire an a colleague from Portugal are monitoring the Referendum in Tonj South, North and East Counties.

Ms. Maguire told Don Bosco FM that it was difficult to go to all the polling centres and her team can only sample some centres.

The Irish observer added that the area to cover is big and has bad roads which are the main obstacles that prevent the team from visiting all voting centres.

Ms. Maguire said that the EU shares information with other observers teams, like SuNDE, to get a complete picture of the voting process in the area.

Ms. Maguire said that the observers saw a lot of enthusiastic voters in the visited centres.

She said she was happy to be a witness of the historical event in South Sudan.

Currently there are 17,000 local and 1,200 foreign observers monitoring the Southern Sudan referendum. The EU mission has the biggest international team with over 100 observers.
