Khartoum residents have seen the prices of essential goods rising high during the days that let to the vote for self-determination in South Sudan.
The government increased prices of petrol from 6.50 Sudanese pounds per gallon to 8.50; diesel went from 4.50 pounds per gallon to 6.50; cooking gas from 12 pounds to 13; and jet fuel from 4.50 pounds per gallon to 6.50, SCR News correspondent reported.With the rise in fuel prices transport fees around Khartoum became more expensive too.
A 50-kilogram bag of sugar now is 20 pounds more expensive and costs 110 pounds. As a result, a cup of tea that was sold at 50 Piastres now costs one pound and who wants a cup of coffee has to pay two pounds instead of one.
All essential food stuffs are more expensive now in Khartoum and the poor are grabbling but have nothing to do since the government warned against any demonstration against the rise in prices.
