The Governor of Lakes State said he was going to ask to the Referendum authorities to extend the voter period beyond Saturday.
Chol Tong Mayay made this statement yesterday while receiving the EU chief observer Veronique de Keyser and a team of journalists including SCRN who visited Rumbek and Wau polling stations.Eng. Tong said the time for voting was too short for people living in rural areas of his state, especially young men at cattle camps.
He added that seven days were enough for urban areas but not for rural parts.
Eng. Tong said the voting exercise in going on well without incidents in Lakes State and the turnout was very good..
He added he met with the neighboring governors of Warrap and Unity states to discuss a security strategy to stop cattle rustling incidents that could disrupt the vote.
