SOUTH AFRICAN CARDINAL TO OBSERVE SUDANESE REFERENDUM

The Archbishop of Durban, South Africa, arrived in Juba today to form part of an ecumenical monitoring team that will observe Southern Sudan’s referendum on secession.

Fr. Martin Ochaya Lino, Secretary General of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba, told Bakhita Radio that Cardinal Wilfred Napier will be a guest of Archbishop Paolino Lokudu Loro, the archbishop of Juba.

Cardinal Napier is representing the church of South Africa.

Fr. Ochaya presented the program of Cardinal’s visit that includes the celebration of the Eucharist, witnessing the vote of the Archbishop, meeting with GoSS President Salva Kiir, blessing of the Major Seminary in Munuki and other activities.

Fr. Ochaya said the visit is of great importance not only for the Church but for all the people in Southern Sudan as it is an expression of solidarity and concern from a religious leader and the people he represents.
