Over 800 returnees travelling by land are expected to arrive in Lakes State by this weekend.

Isaac Karkon Alajabo is the Deputy Director of Southern Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Lakes State. He told Good News Radio that 880 returnees are on their way to Lakes State by land and are expected to arrive in town on Friday.

Mr. Karkon said one of the vehicles transporting the returnees overturned in Aweil, the capital of Northern Barh El Ghazal State, and one old woman and some children were injured but are out of danger.

He added that with the new arrivals the total number of returnees to Lakes State is 3,655.

Mr. Karkon said 182 returnees will be settled in Rumbek Central County at Meen Atool, near Rumbek and 117 returnee families have already received plots at the site.

He also said that the place has water and toilet facilities sponsored by Oxfam.

Mr. Karkon said that his office does not have enough funds to provide the returnees with all they need to prepare their meals, besides transport to their final destinations.

Mr. Karlon appealed to the Government to assist with funds for local transportation and urged returnees to settle with their families otherwise they have to wait at county headquarters to receive a plot of land.
