A 13-year old girl died after being tortured by kinsmen, including her own brother, over allegations that she was pregnant.
The incident took place at Adual in Rumbek East County, Lakes State, on Sunday.Rumbek East County Commissioner, David Marial Gumke, said the brother of the deceased girl accused her of being pregnant, took her out of the compound at night, and tortured her until she was unconscious, Good News Radio reported.
Mr Marial revealed that the girl told her mother she was innocent before the brother took her away.
The Commissioner confirmed that the post-mortem results revealed that the girl was not pregnant.
Mr. Marial said that such unfortunate events are caused by young men who look at their sisters as a source of wealth through bride money.
He added the authorities are taking steps to promote respect to girls as members of society.
The commissioner said six young men were arrested over the crime and are being held at Rumbek Central Prison awaiting charges.
