Traders dealing with imported goods in Rumbek are unable to re-stock their shops blaming lack of foreign currency, particularly US dollars.

The traders expressed their plight to Good News Radio.

Charles, a Central Equatorian who sells both food and non-food items, said without dollars he was not able to import goods because Sudanese Pounds were not acceptable in East Africa where he imported his merchandise from.

He said that dollars became scarce sometime in October and traders were losing money since they have to pay the same rent even with a limited stock.

Charles appealed to his compatriots to vote wisely during the referendum to grant a better management of affairs by the new nation after the referendum.

Jackson, a food retailer lamented that neither the banks nor customers had foreign currency.

He appealed to the government to consider the needs of hard currency traders have in order to import goods.

Many traders in Rumbek get their merchandise from East Africa and need foreign currency to procure the goods they sell in their shops.
