The US vice president phoned his Sudanese counterpart yesterday to discuss issues related with the upcoming referendum.
Joe Biden spoke with Ali Osman Taha to restate the US commitment to the referendum on time, the White House Office of the Vice-president said.
Mr. Biden asked also for a quick negotiation of critical outstanding CPA and post-referendum issues.
He also expressed the US concern about engagement with militias.
Mr. Biden encouraged the Sudanese government to be reassuring and responsible in its messages and policies toward southerners in the north.
The two vice-presidents agreed that a positive relationship between North and South Sudan, whatever referendum outcome, was important for the Sudanese, regional stability, and the US-Sudan relations.
