One of the thousands who returned to South Sudan called for an end to inter-communal clashes, saying the returnees are afraid to fall victim of those conflicts.

Michael Mangar is one of the two hundred returnees camping at Comboni Primary School in Rumbek. He told Good News Radio that the returnees wanted to express appreciation to the local community for warmly receiving them back home.

Mr. Mangar said the returnees feared insecurity caused by inter-communal armed conflicts, calling upon communities to live in peace.

Mr. Mangar said the returnees were happy to be back in South Sudan to take part in the referendum, describing the place as “motherland”.

He lamented that some of the returnees did not arrive on time to register.

He appealed to his fellow returnees to exercise patience and perseverance as they settle down in their new places very different from what they were used to in the North, cautioning them against the desire to return to the North.

Rumbek Central County Commissioner, Matur Majok Magol, said security in his county improved, revealing that he would deploy three security personnel to each of the 38 referendum polling stations.

Lakes State has so far received 1,209 returnees out of the 4,000 expected.
