An Italian author is offering a three-storey villa in Northern Italy to house Southern Sudan diplomats in that country.
Claudio Zaninoto made the offer on Wednesday during a meeting with the GoSS President Salva Kiir Mayardit, accompanied by Bishop Caesar Mazzolari of Rumbek.Bishop Mazzolari told Good News Radio that Mr. Zaninoto presented to the president a book he is writing on the history of Sudan.
The Bishop of Rumbek said the book, titled “When Two Elephants Fight, it is the Grass that Suffers”, explores the fact that during the civil war, it was ordinary people who suffered most.
Bishop Mazzolari said that during the meeting Mr. Zaninoto told Mr. Kiir he wanted to “surrender completely” his villa in Milan or Pavia, to become a diplomatic mission for Southern Sudan.
The bishop added that Mr. Kiir was delighted with the offer and asked “if someone offers you something, even a pen, do you turn it down?”
