The Catholic Bishop of Rumbek described the family as a gift of God and called upon the faithful to be thankful for this gift and live the sacredness of this institution which is the family.
Bishop Caesar Mazzolari made these statements on Sunday at Holy Family Cathedral in Rumbek while celebrating the feast of the Holy Family of Nazareth.Bishop Mazzolari described the family as that “domestic Church in which we learn the basic values that make us Christians”, citing prayer, obedience, honesty, sacrifice and sharing.
He added that a strong society was the result of a good family, calling it a “sanctuary where we learn the basic values that give stability and progress and peace to our society.”
Bishop Mazzolari called upon the faithful to appreciate the gift of the family, urging them to draw inspiration from the Holy Family of Joseph, Mary and Jesus.
He encouraged the faithful to learn from the parents of Jesus the virtues of mutual acceptance, support, trust, and understanding, clarifying that such virtues were founded on faith in God.
Bishop Mazzolari said the Diocese of Rumbek and the Cathedral should be re-consecrated to Jesus, Joseph and Mary, in order to continue to be “the birth place, the growing place of many more Christians.”
