Recently graduated police officers were harassing young women in Juba during the past days because they were wearing tight cloths.
The incidents took place over the Christmas celebrations in many parts of Juba and left many residents upset.
Melania Itto presents the morning live shown Juba Sunrise in Bakhita Radio. She told SCR News that some listeners were upset with the behaviour of the police who were beating young girls because of what they wore.
Some listeners said the action of the police was against the girls’ human rights and threatened the peace needed for the referendum.
A police officer told SCR News that there was no order to crack down on dressing codes.
He added that some new SSPS police acted on their own when they started mistreating girls.
The officer said their behaviour was dishonourable.
He added that the young police were told to stop immediately harassing young girls.
Today the situation in Juba was calm.
Despite these regrettable incidents, the police provided a very secure environment for Juba residents to celebrate Christmas and attend the night masses in the different churches and chapels.
