South Sudan civil society organizations met today in Juba to discuss their engagement in the post-referendum arrangements. The meting was under the theme “Envisioning the future”

Political parties and international organizations were also present at the meeting.

Edmund Yakani, from the Sudan National Democratic Elections (SuNDE), told SCR News that the meeting discussed how civil society can play a role in the post-referendum society.

Mr Yakani added that the meeting also discussed the implementation of the civil society resolutions from the South-South dialogue.

He added that the civil society provided a very good platform to build reconciliation and peace.

Mr Yakani noted that there were no civil society members in the on-gong post referendum negotiations between the peace partners.

He urged the authorities to involve the civil society in the talks because they bridge the gap between the government and people at the grassroots.

The NCP and the SPLM have still to reach an agreement on the post-referendum negotiations that kicked off some months ago.
