The sacrament of Matrimony was blessed by Jesus in Cana of Galilee and gives grace to the couple, the bishop of El Oberid said.

Bishop Macram Max made this statement during his Christmas visit to Gidel, Nuba Mountains, Voice of Peace reported.

Bishop Macram said the base of the sacrament is the love between the man and the woman who marry each other.

He added that love is manifested when a man says to his wife and she tells the husband: “I will marry you in happiness and sorrow, in health and sickness”.

Bishop Macram explained that the words exchanged by the spouses mean they are tied for ever and no one can separate them till death.

The bishop invited men not to marry more than one wife.

Bishop Macram concluded that in the Catholic Church there is no divorce because when a man and a woman marry each other, they promise to share all what they have for the whole of their lives and the sacrament gives grace to both of them to live the pledge.

Many young men and women of Nuba Mountains still need much effort to understand the meaning of the Catholic sacrament of matrimony.
