The European Union Observation Mission applauded the recently concluded voter registration for Southern Sudan referendum on self-determination.
Niall McCann, EU chief election observer, told the press yesterday in Juba that the registration period was comprehensive and peaceful.Mr McCann congratulated the people of South Sudan, the two referendum bodies and the UNMIS for organizing the exercise in such a short period.
The Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau reported that more than 3 million people had registered to vote in the referendum.
The 7.5 million ballot papers and other materials for the elections are already being shipped to the referendum centres.
