An official decried rampant land grabbing at Kemiru village, northern Bari payam.

Juba County experienced widespread land grabbing caused by huge influx of returnees to Juba after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005.

Martin Morris Gore, Acting Director of Northern Bari Payam, told Bakhita Radio that a group of people took upon themselves to sell land illegally in Kemiru.

Mr. Gore alerted people not to buy land from the self-styled land surveyors.

He said the payam administration is following a legal process to arrest the culprits in coordination with the County authority.

Mr. Gore revealed that the grabbed land is equivalent to more than 1,000 plots, extending from Munuki Block Six to Kemiru village in Northern Bari payam.

He added that government officials and military joined in land grabbing activities.

Kemiru village falls under Northern Bari Payam, one of the 16 payams of Juba County.
