Rumbek authorities prepared two way transit centres to welcome returnees from the north and two plots for those who want to remain in town until they get a piece of land.
Philip Kot Job, Director of Lakes State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, told Good News Radio that the government together with UN agencies and NGOs has two transit centres ready to welcome returnees from the North.Mr. Kot said the returnees would stay on those centres for 72 hours to receive food and other assistance, verify their last destinations and organize transportation.
Mr. Kot said that the state government has prepared two plots with the ECS’ help to settle returnees who want to stay in Rumbek.
He added that the returnees will stay at those places for up to three years until they get a piece of land from the ministry of Physical Infrastructure.
Mr. Kot said the waiting returnees will be assisted with food, plastic sheeting, mosquito nets, among other items.
He added that the Education ministry freed three primary schools in case the two away transit centres were not enough to accommodate returnees on transit.
Mr. Kot said the commission got some big trucks to transport returnees to their final destinations.
The first plane flying returnees from Khartoum to Rumbek was expected yesterday but it did not arrive.
