GoSS minister for Internal Affairs said the decentralization of Southern Sudan Police Service (SSPS) would have negative effects in the society.
Yesterday over 5,000 police officers were graduated as the first SSPS batch prepared at Dr. John Garang’s Unified Police Training Centre in Juba, Bakhita Radio reported.
Minister Gier Chuang Aluong told the participants at the graduation that decentralization of police forces in southern Sudan was negative due to the tribal conflicts in the region.
Mr. Chuang appealed for South Sudan police officers to work anywhere in the region with a central command in Juba for the police not to take sides in tribal clashes.
Mr. Chuang urged GoSS President Salva Kiir Mayardit to place the police under the security sector instead of the Judiciary.
SSPS forces are gradually being professionalized replacing old police and former combatants in order to guarantee law and order across the region.
