The President of the Government of Southern Sudan said his government has no intention to take the people back to war.
Salva Kiir Mayardit told yesterday the congregation at St. Theresa’s Cathedral in Juba that aerial bombardments in Greater Bahr el Ghazal are provocations by Khartoum to reignite the conflict and derail the referendum but the South would not retaliate.Mr. Kiir also described the aerial bombardments as unhealthy for Khartoum’s future relation with the south.
The President also promised security to all foreigners and northerners living in South Sudan during the referendum exercise.
Mr. Kiir’s comments come after Sudan military aircraft dropped bombs in southern Sudan’s territory for the third time last week.
