The speaker of South Sudanese Legislative Assembly called on political leaders to end differences and reconcile their supporters ahead of the referendum.
James Wani Igga made this appeal in Torit on Sunday while attending mass at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Emmanuel Radio reported.Speaker Igga said union among southerner leaders who contested the April elections was vital for the success of referendum.
He urged Eastern Equatoria former governor Aloisio Emor Ojetuk and his successor Louis Lobong Lojore to take the lead by bringing their supporters together.
Speaker Igga said election differences should not be allowed to spoil the referendum.
He added that would be regrettable if people did not forgive each other.
Speaker Igga warned against prolonging hatred and urged people to reconcile and unite ahead of the long-awaited referendum in 33 days.
Speaker Igga also cautioned against tribalism, saying it creates division and mistrust among the Southern ethnic communities.
