UN agencies and NGOs involved in relief activities in South Sudan launched an appeal of 32,6 million US dollars to assist in the settlement of returnees at their final destinations.
International Organization for Migration reported that since October 30 over 51 thousand people returned to southern Sudan and more than half settled in Unity State.UN Regional Deputy Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Lise Grande briefed journalists that aid agencies this afternoon.
Ms. Garnde called for immediate funding to provide emergency assistance to returnees.
She added that government agencies are coordinating the return movement.
Ms. Grande added that returnees’ emergency needs include shelter, water and sanitation facilities.
She said assistance to returnees up to their final destinations was crucial to avoid creating IDP camps.
Ms Lise said measles outbreaks were detected among some returnee children.
