UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is holding its thirtieth Regional Conference for the Near East Region from today until Wednesday in Khartoum at the invitation of the Government of the Sudan.
Thirty member states from the Near East Region will participate in addition to observers, FAO said in a press release.Senior Officers will discuss several issues including the implications of soaring food prices and global financial and economic crises on food and nutrition security in the Near East.
The meeting will also discuss the conclusions and recommendations of regional commissions and relevant meetings in the Near East including the recent Agriculture and Land and Water Commission held in Khartoum last week.
The recommendations of the Senior Officers Meeting will be discussed and adopted by the Ministerial Meeting during the conference’s last two days.
