Yei River County Referendum Subcommittee urged campaigners not to use the referendum symbols separately but keep them together in order not to disrupt the plebiscite due to take place within 37 days.

Subcommittee public outreach programme manager, Fr. Simon Khamis Mabe, told Easter Radio that citizens should not separate the symbols for the referendum by putting them in different papers.

Fr. Khamis added that both symbols for unity and separation should be kept together for voters to understand their meaning when they go to the polls.

He added that if the symbols are separated their meaning can be manipulated and voters misled.

Fr. Khamis urged campaigners to explain the meaning of the symbols and of the referendum to people and let them choose.

He asked individuals not decide on behalf of the population to avoid misleading voters as it happened during the April elections.

Fr. Khamis said the act of separating the symbols by some individuals during the celebration of the World Aids Day in Yei was a way of disrupting the referendum by the enemies of peace.
