Eastern Equatoria governor urged Churches to intensify prayers for the success of a peaceful referendum and HIV control in Southern Sudan.
Louis Lobong Lojore made the call yesterday during a prayer service for referendum organized by Inter Council of Churches and a celebration to mark the World AIDS Day in Torit, Emmanuel Radio reported.
Mr. Lobong said the referendum and AIDS Day were about choosing between life and death.
The governor said prayers spoke louder than words.
Mr. Lobong called on religious leaders to pray for the young to change their morals and be faithful.
He asked for prayers for peaceful campaigns during the last lap of the referendum process.
The health coordinator for Catholic Dioceses of Torit, Emmanuel Douglas Obuja, said in the same event that Eastern Equatoria state was at risk of HIV AIDS scourge.
Mr. Obuja added that many people in the state were living with the disease but did not know their status due to limited service and facilities.
He was speaking on behalf of non-governmental organization involved in health services provision.
