The Government of South Sudan was urged to speed up the return of Southerners stranded in the North in order to register and vote for the referendum in the South.

Paulino Miding chairs the council of elders at the Holy Family Cathedral in Rumbek and is the Director of Forestry in the sate ministry of Agriculture. He told Good News Radio that the government of national unity can find any excuse to frustrate the referendum process.

Mr. Miding urged GoSS to collaborate with the UN and civil society organizations to facilitate the immediate return of Southerners.

Mr. Miding said the unity between South and North Sudan was not possible anymore since South Sudan was always behind in terms of development, education and health services.

He added that Christians also lost their lives due to religious differences.

Thousands of Southerners living in the North are travelling South by land, river and plane in order to register for the referendum.

A local source told SCR News that Abyei alone received already 21 thousand returnees and 14 thousand are children in schooling age.
