Seventeen households in Bungu Payam received today two goats each from Sudan Aid as a pilot project to boost economic sustainability in the area and combat poverty among vulnerable groups.

The project targeted disabled, blind, elderly, widows and widowers to assist them in improving their livelihood.

Ovur Kim Adelio, Sudan Aid programme coordinator, told Bakhita Radio that today 34 goats to 17 families were distributed with the collaboration of the local chief.

Mr. Ovur added that the project is intended to reduce poverty among the vulnerable groups in Bungu payam.

Mr. Ovur revealed that Sudan Aid planned to employ a veterinary to monitor the health of the animals and advise the locals on how to look after the goats.

Mr. Ovur concluded that this pilot project would be extended to other payams of Juba County in the short run.

The current project aims at supplying 82 goats to 41 families in Bungu.
