The World Health Organization started today an accelerated vaccination programme for children under one of age as southern Sudan begins voter registration for a historic referendum to determine the destiny of the region.

Eastern Equatoria deputy speaker, Paul Napwon, acknowledged that the accelerated vaccination programme was as remarkable as the referendum, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Mr. Napwon urged leaders to include dissemination of messages about the accelerated vaccination during their political rallies in the constituencies.

The deputy speaker called on mothers to take their children to be vaccinated against killer diseases like polio, measles and tetanus while they go to register their names for the referendum.

The accelerated vaccination programme started today and concludes on Friday.
