A high delegation representing bishops from Eastern and Southern Africa left Rumbek yesterday, after two days of attentive listening to the situation of the Catholic Church in the Sudan.

The delegation praised the advocacy work of the Catholic Bishops of Sudan and their stand for a free, fair, transparent and credible referendum, Good News Radio reported.

Bishop Tarcisio Ziyaye of Blantire (Malawi) and President of AMECEA, the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa, said that the delegation was enriched and edified by the visit.

Bishop Rudolf Deng Majak, President of the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference, put emphasis on the time of the visit, two months before the historical referendum.

The Bishops of Sudan handed to the SECAM and AMECEA delegation an appeal in view of the forthcoming referendum.
