The Sudanese Pound (SDG) will not last as official currency for more than two years, an official said today.

Last week, the president of the Bank of Southern Sudan, Elijah Malok Aleng, told Miraya FM that discussions were under way in Khartoum between the governments of National Unity and Southern Sudan to set a time frame for the SDG’s phase out.

SPLM Secretary for Political Affairs and Mobilization, Antipas Nyok Kucha, told journalists in Juba today that the SDG will not longer exist after two years regardless of whatever referendum outcome.

Mr. Nyok reconfirmed that the SDG issue was still under discussion as part of the post referendum agenda.

He did not explain if Southern Sudan would have a new currency in case it seceded from the north.
