Eastern Equatoria health authorities voiced concern over the chronic drugs shortage at state hospitals and blamed negligent workers for the shortfall.

Health Minister Felix Makuja told Eastern Equatoria MPs on Friday, during the presentation of the policy statement of his ministry that drug shortage was a big problem because some health workers channeled them to private businesses.

MP Ofisi Asada complained that patients were referred to private clinics and pharmacies to purchase medicine because drugs were not available at hospital stores.

He decried the practice saying government should intervene to enable beneficiaries to access to the drugs that are meant for their well being and not for private sale.
